What Guardrail Systems Do

Guardrail systems are passive fall protection — they require no action from the worker to be effective. A properly engineered guardrail prevents workers from reaching the fall hazard in the first place. Under OSHA 1926.502(b), top rails must withstand 200 lbs of force in any direction; mid-rails must withstand 150 lbs. Our systems exceed these minimums and are designed for Philippine tropical conditions including wind loading and corrosion resistance.

Components

System Components

Top Rail

42 inches (±3 in.) above walking surface. Minimum 200 lb load capacity in any direction. Galvanized steel pipe or powder-coated aluminum.

Mid Rail

Positioned midway between top rail and walking surface. Minimum 150 lb load capacity. Required when there is no wall or parapet.

Toe Board

Minimum 3.5 inches high. Prevents tools and materials from rolling off edges. Required where workers pass below.

Posts / Uprights

Spaced maximum 8 feet apart. Anchored to structural slab or beam — never to formwork alone. Load-tested anchorage design.

Intermediate Members

Screens, mesh, or intermediate rails where opening exceeds 19 inches. Prevents workers from falling through.

Installation

Remove from service immediately; inspect all components; replace any deformed or cracked members before reinstalling
